Tomorrow’s the day. Your first day of [school, college, new job…]. You’re laying in bed, maybe even hitting the sack early, because you want that proverbial “good night’s sleep”. But, there’s a problem. You cannot fall asleep. No. Matter. What. 1000 sheep have jumped. Twice. You’ve counted those flying sheep BACKWARD, from 1000 to 1, TWICE – doing it backwards because “they” say that it’s easier to fall asleep if you count backwards. (“They” say that if you count forward, your subconscious brain stays awake to see how high you get when counting. Hmph.) Or, maybe that beautiful mantra that you learned in mindfulness class that works on EVERY OTHER NIGHT is failing you on this most important of nights.
Why can’t you sleep? Your mind is racing based on the many thoughts and questions running through your mind, and the emotions that they create. Those emotions show up in your mind, your gut, and maybe elsewhere in your body.
The thoughts focus on questions that take over your mind:
- Are you prepared?
- Will you be successful?
- Will you fit in with the people?
- Will you like it?
Maybe more.
These thoughts bring emotions – excitement, fear, courage, insecurity, hope, doubt, imposter syndrome, energy – any of these may be at the top of your list; know that they all are normal and 100% OK. Intellectually and logically, you know that you are beyond prepared. However, these facts are not helping you fall asleep.
Welcome to my first blog post, and I invite you into all those “beginner” feelings that I have at this very moment, even as you read this. I am more than prepared – this is my passion, I am skilled, and I am thrilled. Those facts are not always enough to keep away my self-critical thoughts, however – nor the emotions and physical manifestations that accompany them. My skill and preparedness do not guarantee that you’ll relate or that you’ll find value in what I have to offer – but I’m here now, I’ll be here tomorrow, and I’ll continue to show up because I believe that it’s worth it. That YOU are worth it.
What’s different is that I have learned to recognize those fears and those voices – and the emotions and feelings that they birth – and I know what to do with them. They are not true – and definitely not Truth. Instead, I bring to bear what IS true and Truth – that I am meant for this, and that I have already played a role in helping people make tangible impacts to their lives.
You may relate to those feelings – those questions – those hopes – those doubts – that I referenced. You also know that there is something out there for yourself – whether it’s untapped or tapped but stuck. What limiting beliefs are you holding onto? What misinterpretations might exist for you? If this sounds familiar, I’d love to partner with you to unleash or unstick it – to help you discover and achieve that incredible potential that’s inside you.
Thanks for being part of a new Beginning for me. I would love to partner with you on your Beginnings too. Let’s grab our oars and get to it – we have waves to make together.
